!! FREE GIG !! 22/06/08 !!
!! FREE GIG !! THIS SUNDAY 22nd - NEW CROSS- LONDON !! !!! HELLO GANG !!! ......Warm rays of L.O.V.E to you all today...... We have a personal appearance this Sunday 22nd June, Amersham Arms, New Cross, London. Onstage 10pm (support from The Shutes, Alexander Wolfe, Howie Payne and Benjamin Thomas). !! ENTRY IS FREE......FREE........FREE....... !! x xWould be lovely to see you all down there- it's a full day of music and togetherness starting at 5pm x x Here's the blurb from Lee: This is the first of a run of classic, and frankly bloody amazing Redbricks line ups in the delightful surroundings of the Amersham Arms in New Cross, South London. http://www.amersham-arms.co.uk/find-us.php unbelievably, all this lot are coming to you FREE of charge and on your doorstep.. (well, if your south of the river at least). kicks off around 5 with young Benjamin Thomas, http://www.myspace.com/benjaminthomas1 an emerging talent and a main player at our open mic 'Redbricks in the Sticks' nights at The Gladstone.. folk inflected protests songs for a lethargic generation. Local lad come super good, Alexander Wolfe http://www.myspace.com/alexanderwolfe has a the voice of a battered angel and an excellent batch of heartbreaking songs to boot, lovingly arranged with cellos, harmonies and assorted other musical periphera. Howard Elliot Payne, http://www.myspace.com/howardelliotpayne ex front man with liverpools criminally under rated 'The Stands', has blossomed into an excellent songwriter and performer of considerable merit. His tunes are an excellent example of modern songwriting, especially for anyone with an ear for that classic and unmistakable liverpudlian twang.. The Shutes, http://www.myspace.com/theshutes The Isle of Wights best kept secret, but hopefully not for long. Psyched out pop tunes from the sunny isle, another excellent band in what's becoming a tradition of great leftfield pop, the spiritual younger brothers of those other much loved exports, The Bees and The Motion Pictures. What do we need to say about The Draytones? http://www.myspace.com/thedraytones Old school Redbricks favourites and well versed veterans of our 2nd ever gig a couple of years back, they've been all conquering ever since with two amazing albums of mind bending argentinian/anglo psych straight outta 68 under their belt.. on top form after their recent slot supporting the modfather himself.. Paul Weller. Breathtaking yet all inclusive set of fucked up psych/folk tunes and beyond all afternoon, and well into the evening from your hosts Gorton Brown and Miss Beale of The Redbricks.. come and join us... IT'S ALL FOR FREE!!!! XXX x The Draytones x

About The Draytones
On a bleak winter's eve in January 2006, 3 lads stand gazing at 60's legend Joe Meek's former North London home. They smile knowingly, shake hands and all agree to henceforth be The Draytones, an Anglo-Argentine psychbeat collective commited to reactivating a sound long lost and feared forgotten.
Gabriel and Luke were brought together in London N7, via Buenas Aires and Grimsby. Fed up with everything on the radio and a life on the breadline, they found Eel Pie Islander Chris and set off to play songs the likes of which had not been heard since the rug-cutting glory days of Syd Barrett, Los Gatos Salvajes, The Kinks, Thee Milkshakes and many more. With a simple drums, bass and guitar setup they wish to play to anyone who will lend an ear, that they too may vibrate in the mind of the one true God whose name is love; grooving as one to the music of yore.

They played their 1st gig in March 2006 with The Hoosiers, followed by supports slots with The Strawbs, The Downliners Sect and The View.

They then met one Jan 'Stan' Kybert, with whom music was recorded for "the artists'" concise purpose. Stan sprinkled a fine layer of dust on The Draytones and out popped 'Forver On'- the band's debut EP released April 2007 (from which their 1st ever single, 'Keep Loving Me', was taken).
They hopped in a van with ex-Ten Benson boy fe' the valleys Paul 'Tidy' Summers and set about playing venues and festivals the length and breadth of the UK, Spain and Japan in 2007- culminating in a headline slot on Thursday night at Glastonbury Festival.

In September they went hand in hand with Jan 'Stan' Kybert to The Chapel, South Thoresby, Lincolnshire. On the way they were overtaken by a caravan. In 16 days the 4 men recorded "Up In My Head", The Draytones 10 track Debut LP. The album was mixed in 5 days in Dean Street Studios, Soho, London.....where Jaz Lee made sure that crunchy, cream centred biscuits were never far from hand.

A young man named Alex Gazetas had an inspired haircut in Twickenham and hence joined The Draytones on their quest for immortality playing Philichords and Digi-Hammond's to his heart's content.

The band's second single, 'Turn It Down'(taken from the debut LP) was released in April 2008, with the full album set to hit the town 5th May 2008 !

Stan sent a copy of said LP to Paul Weller, who asked The Draytones to come on tour with him around UK in May 2008.
